Remote Sensing and Modelling, Ground-based Aerosol Optical Depth, Oil Sands Region
New data from Fort McMurray, AB, Bratt’s Lake, SK and Kelowna, BC up to 2012 have been added to the Portal. Using the AEROCAN network, measurement of aerosol concentration and size made in the oil sands region can be compared with data collected at other Canadian locations.
With this update, Fort McMurray, AB, data is available for 2005, and from 2007 to 2012; for Bratt’s Lake, SK, data spans from 1999 to 2012; and for Kelowna, BC spans from 1999 to 2012.
Measurements are made using the sunphotometer instruments of theAEROCAN network, which is a joint collaboration between Environment Canada and the Université de Sherbrooke.
Aerosols are solid or liquid particles suspected in air of varying sizes and compositions. They be naturally-occurring or man-made.
